Venus 2016 AD_AM Tribes Mix

December 25, 2016 in Art Sculpture

Some of the earliest know sculpturesto us historically are what they call Venus Figurines en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_fi…. And I always wanted to make my own, follow in that spirit, in that tradition of figure makers. So I made this contemporary version. The pose I kept basic, like most of the found Venuses. The lungs and hearth represent our modern biological understanding. Although am sure prehistoric people also knew their insides I think that nowadays we have faith in our scientific understanding of them. So it becomes like a tatto, a symbol of faith in lieu of a god.
I chose to paint the womb as life sort of begins there, the sun, the skull, the infinity sign all symbolize the cycle of life and death, you could say our history. I also added a symbol for time, for we transverse it, It has always been with us. Like me for example drawing inspiration for that ancient sculpture.
Also painted the forearms to symbolize the duality of things, yin yang that sort of thing. Although we love science and technology there are still these other aspects of being, the metaphysical questions still exist, things that humanity has always sought to know about why it's here and so on.
The world symbolizes how we see the earth now, like before the rockets went up in the air and took pictures of the earth, earth was seen differently. When that happened I think it shifted how people gasped the planet. Our contemporary brains have a more global perspective, our awareness encompasses the happenings and goings of the whole world, and we're still living during that era.
And I also added some of those MEME characters on the legs, I guess to symbolize where we stand now with the internet and things, the internet culture.
